INTRODUCTION
There is no single secret to the continued success of the Hinckley
Triumph factory, but a package of reasons which collectively have
ensured the reputation of the company as a producer of highly desirable,
technologically advanced motorcycles.
But driving Triumph forward is the fundamental policy of listening to
its customers, either directly from the highly accessible factory or via
the comprehensive network of high quality dealers.
Only this way can Triumph bring about the changes to its model range, be
they small details or entirely new models, which are most effective at
satisfying the current customer base and introducing new riders to the
pleasures of Triumph ownership.
Two examples illustrate this. Some customers otherwise delighted with
the recently introduced Thunderbird Sport suggested it might be easier
to lift the bike upright from its side stand if the stand was a little
longer. Triumph's engineers tried this out, confirmed stability on the
stand would still be acceptable, and implemented the change from 1999
only a short period after the bike first appeared.
It's a small detail, but illustrates the attitude which has resulted in
such strong customer loyalty that the enormously popular, factory run
Riders' Association of Triumph (RAT) continues to go from strength to
strength.
At the same time, Triumph has continued to look at the broad picture of
how the motorcycle market is changing and maturing, and has seen the
need to replace models as they approach the end of their design life. In
the case of the Sprint ST and the Tiger, that replacement has meant more
than a facelift - instead, each bike is entirely new for 1999, keeping
faith with the qualities associated with the original name tag but
improving every aspect of the outgoing models with the application of
late 1990's technology and design.
This technology and design is another reason for the now-established
strength in depth of Triumph. The production lines are automated
wherever possible and are as advanced as any in the world, while the
very latest in computer aided 'CAD-CAM' design techniques keeps Triumph
at the cutting edge of engineering and construction.
Finally, Triumph's obsessive quest to maintain the very highest build
quality and levels of durability for all of its machines has ensured
that its motorcycles are as satisfying used as they are new. This in
turn helps to uphold resale values, adding even more value to Triumph
ownership and ensuring the continued return of many previous Triumph
customers.
Triumph is savoring the challenge of advancing in an increasingly
competitive market in 1999. With two entirely new models, major changes
to two others and smaller but important and influential upgrades to two
more, Triumph is equipped with a formidable arsenal of machines which
can only move it even further ahead.
